Neck Pain Treatment in London EC1
Stiffness, aching, restricted movement or desk-related tension — neck pain is one of the most common complaints we treat. Hands-on relief from the root cause, not a temporary fix.
What Is Neck Pain?
Neck pain affects the cervical spine — the seven vertebrae between the base of the skull and the upper back. It can present as localised stiffness and aching, pain that radiates into the shoulders and arms, or tension headaches that build at the base of the skull.
Common causes include joint restriction from poor posture, disc irritation, muscle strain from whiplash or sport, and the accumulated effect of hours spent looking at screens. In London's office-heavy workforce, cervicogenic (neck-origin) headaches are particularly prevalent.
How Chiropractic Helps
Chiropractic care for neck pain focuses on restoring normal movement to the cervical joints, releasing the chronically tight muscles and addressing the postural patterns that caused the problem. Cervical adjustments are gentle, precise and highly effective — often producing immediate improvement in range of motion.
We combine hands-on treatment with targeted dry needling for deep muscle tension, ergonomic advice for desk-workers, and a postural exercise programme to prevent recurrence.

Treating Whiplash & Sudden Onset Neck Pain
Whiplash — the rapid acceleration-deceleration of the cervical spine — is most commonly associated with road traffic accidents but also occurs in contact sports, falls and certain workplace incidents. A defining feature is delayed onset: many patients feel relatively well immediately after the incident but develop significant pain, stiffness and headache 12–72 hours later as inflammation builds in the injured tissues.
Early treatment — within the first week — significantly improves outcomes and reduces the risk of the condition becoming chronic. The old advice to rest and wear a collar is now known to be counterproductive: controlled, pain-free movement is far more effective. Our approach in the acute stage focuses on restoring normal movement patterns, reducing muscle guarding and providing graded exercise advice.
If your whiplash resulted from a road traffic accident, you may be entitled to claim the cost of treatment through your insurance. We provide clinical reports and can liaise with your insurer on request.
Neck Pain & Headaches: The Cervicogenic Link
Many patients present with neck pain and recurring headaches together — and in a significant proportion of cases, the headaches are cervicogenic: driven by dysfunction in the upper cervical spine rather than by a primary neurological cause.
The upper cervical joints (C1, C2 and C3) share neural pathways with the trigeminal nerve, which is responsible for sensation across the face and head. Irritation of these joints can therefore produce pain referred to the base of the skull, temples, behind the eye and across the forehead — mimicking tension headache or even migraine.
The clinical hallmark of cervicogenic headache is that pressure on the upper cervical joints reproduces or alters the headache pattern. If your headaches consistently follow neck stiffness or worsen with sustained postures (driving, desk work, looking at a phone), cervicogenic headache is a likely contributor.
We treat neck pain and cervicogenic headaches for patients across Barbican, Clerkenwell, Old Street and Islington. Same-day appointments often available — call 07903 579600.
