Cupping Therapy in London EC1
Gently lifts and loosens stubborn muscle tension, boosts blood flow and accelerates recovery. Perfect alongside massage or rehab — or as a standalone session.
How Cupping Therapy Works
Cupping therapy uses suction cups placed on the skin to create negative pressure — gently lifting the soft tissue rather than compressing it as massage does. This reverse pressure separates fascial layers, draws blood to the surface and stimulates the body's natural healing response.
The result: faster breakdown of adhesions, improved circulation, reduced inflammation and a deep release of chronic muscle tension that can be hard to reach with hands alone.
At Active Care, we use both static and dynamic cupping techniques, tailored to your specific areas of tension and treatment goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Static vs Dynamic Cupping
Static cupping places cups in fixed positions for 5–15 minutes over areas of significant tension or stagnation. The sustained suction creates a deep lift through multiple tissue layers, promoting blood flow, reducing inflammation and breaking down adhesions. It is particularly effective for chronic, deep-seated tension in the upper back, lower back and hips.
Dynamic cupping involves moving the cups across the skin (over oil) to create a myofascial release effect. Rather than compressing tissue downward as massage does, the moving cup lifts and stretches the fascia, separating layers that have adhered together. This is ideal for broad areas of tension and for patients who find static cupping too intense.
In most sessions we combine both methods to target different tissue depths and achieve the best outcome.

Getting the Most From Your Session
The 24–48 hours after cupping are an important window for maximising the benefits. Increased blood flow and metabolic activity in the treated tissues continue to work after you leave the clinic. Drink 2–3 litres of water to support the elimination of metabolic waste; avoid cold exposure (cold showers, ice packs) on the cupped areas, as cold counteracts the vasodilatory effect; and do gentle movement — a short walk or light stretching is ideal.
The circular marks from cupping typically fade in 3–7 days. Darker marks indicate greater levels of stagnation in that area and often correlate with where you feel the most relief. If you have an event or need to expose your back, let us know in advance and we can adapt the technique.
